Transform your floor into its very own gallery space with this special collectors shag-pile rug by the artist and illustrator Asia Pietrzyk.

We invite you to become the owner of a rug which has a unique story of being. All pieces are first ever creations from artists the world over that have collaborated with us to offer a new way to enjoy graphic art as a soft hand-woven rug made from 100% recycled plastic. Transforming mountains of unwanted plastic bottles into limited edition floor art.

Computerised screen pixels are transformed into thousands of tiny individual tufts bringing to life the design, colour and flow within this limited-edition hand-tufted rug.

Produced in a limited run, this rug offers a more connected relationship with the artist and the value of knowing that only a small number of like-minded individuals will enjoy that very same piece within their home environment.

Our shag-pile hand tufted rugs introduce a more 20th century approach to production. Using a tufting gun to punch every strand of wool through a stretched canvas, the artwork appears in full glory on the other side. The recycled P.E.T yarn is treated in the same way as wool to ensure its quality and softness to the touch.

All our rugs come from a mindset of slow design, human creative collaboration and an ethically driven purpose. On every rug edition you will see the Goodweave Label the official stamp to certify your rug is free from child labour and has helped to donate profits back into such a vital organisation.

About the artist: Asia Pietrzyk

Polish born Asia Pietrzyk is an illustrator with a love of bold colours, dots, eyes, red nails and 80’s music which can be seen throughout her work.

Asia’s illustration work has given her notoriety through various commissions by Elle France, Elle Poland, FileMaker, Forbes Japan, Refinery 29, Time, amongst many others.

We have collaborated with Asia to transform her illustrative series for Elle France celebrating the female form and feminine sex into a series of luxury shag pile floor art pieces, offering a very tactile way to enjoy her work.

When I discovered Knot Collective over one year ago I knew that I would want to design something for them one day. I loved their selection of bold carpets and was also very impressed by their ethical rules. I feel honoured to collaborate with a brand that puts so much care about people and environment.

Craft

Every knot, tuft and weave that goes into creating your piece of floor art is done by the skilled hand of our artisan weavers.

Artists within their own right, our weavers use ancient techniques passed on through generations and unchanged over time. Each rug we create is made using 100% Recycled plastic transforming mountains of unwanted plastic bottles from landfills around the world into a piece of limited-edition floor art. Plastic fibres are carded, threaded, spun and brushed in the same way as wool to create a luxurious and malleable yarn.

The story of each rug is a complete circle of collaboration. From the graphic artists that use modern computerised techniques to produce each design, The Knot Collective which guide the creative process to realise the artists work within the new medium of a rug and then finally the real magic when each design comes to life on the loom.

Reaching across the globe everyone involved in this story stays true to the mindset of slow design, creating our rugs from sustainable materials and using production processes that impact to create positive changes for the environment and human population.

Recycled

The Knot Collective mission is taking on the daunting reality of over consumption and a continuous rise of plastic waste, by turning discarded plastic into woven pieces of collectable floor art.

Owning just one Knot Collective rug comes with the knowledge that you have diverted almost 3,855 plastic bottles away from being dumped into a landfill and ensuring your rug is made from 100% post-consumer material.

The recycled PET fibres within each rug are naturally stain-resistant and do not require the chemical treatments used on most nylon carpets, they also retain colour and resist fading from exposure to the sun or harsh cleaning.

Producing the yarn from an existing manufactured product means we do not need to use precious hydrocarbons to make the polyester material.  Reducing energy consumption for manufacturing by 66%, reducing green house gas emissions by over 34% and reducing water consumption by nearly 50%.

We are now on a continuous journey to explore using different recycled materials for future Floor Art Collections.

Your rug will empower the fight to end child labour

152 million children are currently the victims of child labour and the choices we make as consumers help determine whether these children are free to have a real childhood or be forced into labour or slavery. Will their hands paint, draw and colour — or harvest, sew and glue? It’s up to us.

As a partner of Goodweave, The Knot Collective is fully opposed to child labour of any nature. Being a member of GoodWeave ensures your rug is ethically made by adult artisans, not children.

A portion of our profits from every rug sold is donated back into GoodWeave helping to fulfil their mission to create a market demand for certified child-labour-free rugs, monitor supply chains and provide critical services for weaving families.

Goodweave is dedicated to the rescue and education of every child, creating a safe and hopeful environment in which to thrive.  Goodweave will exist until there are no more children to save.
